[UPDATE 4/17/25]: In a move that will come as a surprise to no one, Fyre Festival 2 organizers have postponed the event indefinitely.

In a statement sent out to the brave few who purchased tickets, organizers announced, “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced.” They promised refunds, adding, “Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.” Rates for ticket packages ranged from $1,400 to $1,100,000.

This news comes after Billy McFarland and his partners struggled to confirm a location for the festival, changing from Isla Mujeres to Playa del Carmen after local officials denied having any knowledge of the event. Apparently, the team also failed to secure the proper permits for the new location, registering only for a 12-hour indoor listening party limited to just 250 people.

The only “performer” announced was NFL star Antonio Brown, but as recently as three weeks ago, McFarland held a press conference and posted an update promising not only DJs, rappers, reggae artists, and pop stars, but also “athletes, divers, models, pilots, and creators.” He described the event as an intimate experience, limited to 1,800 people, with dozens of artists in a private party-like setting and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to do things like ATV through the jungle with a Super Bowl champion, swim with the sharks with a pop star, and learn MMA on the beach with a UFC champion.

[3/15/25]: Billy McFarland has revealed the first performer on the Fyre Festival 2 lineup, and it’s not a musician, or band, or DJ, but former NFL star Antonio Brown.

This comports with what McFarland previously said in a series of media interviews about the event. He told Today that the festival would include “artists across electronic, hip-hop, pop, and rock. However, it’s not just music. We might have a professional skateboarder do a demonstration. You might have an MMA champion teach you techniques in the morning.”

Pressed on whether the lineup was officially booked yet, McFarland replied, “So I think what makes Fyre so cool is that we are selling the experience of Fyre. I want to be one of the first festivals that can sell out with no artists,” adding, “We’re announcing the artists over the next few months, so I’m not in charge of booking the talent.”

After that interview, Isla Mujeres tourism directorate Edgar Gasca reportedly said the city had “no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or any company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”

Fyre Festival 2 producers Lostnights responded, saying, “Fyre Festival 2 has secured top-tier private venues and hotels in partnership with our local allies who have established communications with the corresponding authorities to ensure full compliance and flawless execution.”

Tickets for Fyre Festival 2 remain available, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $1,100,000.

[2/24/25]: After botching his first attempt so badly that it landed him in prison, disgraced festival promoter Billy McFarland has announced that Fyre Festival 2 will take place in Mexico on Isla Mujeres from May 30th through June 2nd, 2025.

“I’m sure many people think I’m crazy for doing this again,” he said in a statement. “But I feel I’d be crazy not to do it again. After years of reflection and now thoughtful planning, the new team and I have amazing plans for FYRE 2. The adventure seekers who trust the vision and take the leap will help make history. Thank you to my partners for the second chance.”

Multiple documentaries detailed the horrors of the original Fyre Festival, which was advertised as a luxury music festival on a private island once owned by Pablo Escobar. In reality, the event took place in a parking lot covered with sand and was—well, not so luxurious. Attendees arrived to find poorly furnished tents instead of the glamping villas they were promised, and when many were reportedly stranded after the Bahamian government barred planes from landing at the airport, they were fed cheese sandwiches in styrofoam containers rather than dining on the gourmet food that was advertised.

This time, McFarland has partnered with Lostnights, a legitimate production company with decades of experience hosting events in remote locations. The three-day music festival will feature day-time excursions led by international and local talent and intimate beach-side performances at night.

McFarland has been talking about a second attempt at Fyre Fest for years. He’s even put tickets for the event on sale before—as far back as 2023, when Fyre Fest II was due to take place in 2024. This is the closest any existing buyers have come to more information since then.
