After a 15-year wait, the 14th season of King of the Hill arrived on Hulu this week, and viewers were quick to notice the show’s new outro music—a bluegrass version of the program’s iconic theme song recorded by Billy Strings.
The song, aptly titled “Yahoos and Triangles”, was originally written and recorded by The Refreshments, who later rebranded as Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers in 1998. While Strings’ version omits the original’s signature clanging percussion and shouted “yahoos” that inspired the title, it features a ripping guitar solo, raucous “yeehaws,” and contributions from his touring band—mandolinist Jarrod Walker, banjo player Billy Failing, bassist Royal Masat, and fiddler Alex Hargreaves—along with drummer Jamie Dick, banjoist Russ Carson, and fiddler Billy Contreras.
Strings and his band have teased the tune live, including at a 2021 show at Leach Amphitheater in Oshkosh, WI. Fans will have to wait and see whether they’ll bust it out again on the upcoming North American leg of their summer tour, which is set to begin this Friday, August 8th in Milwaukee, WI and run through the end of August. The tour will be available to stream via nugs.
