On the eve of his untimely death, a special tribute concert to David Bowie was announced to take place at Carnegie Hall on March 31. By morning, the tribute became a memorial and eventually a second date was even added to accommodate the overflow of love coming from both artists and fans for the Thin White Duke.

Slated to play the event are The Flaming Lips, Pixies, Cyndi Lauper, Cat Power, and R.E.M‘s Michael Stipe, who performed Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World” earlier this week on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Also billed to play are The Roots, but as of last night, Questlove has expressed via Instagram that the “The Roots/Bilal/Kimbra (w/ Wendy Melvoin, DD Jackson & Ray Angry) pulled out of these Bowie gigs,” Pitchfork reports.

Evidently this decision comes from a debacle concerning equipment with another artist(s) at the event. “Mood. I’ve never been so insecure or petty as to deny a fellow musician use of ANY of my equipment (or my band’s equipment—-or resources or contacts or knowledge or ANYTHING),” he writes, “it angers me when that same courtesy is not reciprocated. (Believe you me I was about to get #TomPetty or #PettyWap or #PetRockAndCLSmooth or #BlackPetty or however you wanna roll wit it).”

He adds that he is “keeping a level head and not being self destructive is a weak point I’m working on” and has some patience. “But we do NOT have patience for the #Bitchassness.” Preach, Questlove. We’ve got your back!
