Blackberry Smoke has shared a new pro-shot video of the band covering ZZ Top‘s “Jesus Left Chicago” with members of The Allman Betts Band. The clip was recorded live on the Southern rock bands’ Spirit of the South tour, currently in progress.

Following ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill‘s passing on July 28th, the two bands teamed up for covers of “Jesus Left Chicago” on both July 30th in Bridgeport, CT and August 1st in Huber Heights, OH per Setlist.FM. The tributes came during the tour’s customary show-closing set, during which members of the various Spirit of the South bands come together for some jammed-out covers.

This take on the Tres Hombres classic evokes added significance as Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr uses the same 1950 Fender Broadcaster that Billy Gibbons used to record the track on the 1973 album. Starr is joined by a chorus of guitars including Devon Allman and Duane Betts who all get their turn soloing on the Texas blues crawl.

More recently, the two bands paid tribute to yet another fallen rock icon in Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts. During the Spirit of the South stop on Wednesday at New York City’s The Rooftop At Pier 17, Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band joined together at the show-closing collaborative set for a touching rendition of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.
