For the first time since Fare Thee WellGrateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and guitarist Bob Weir performed on stage together!

The two were on hand for Lesh’s son’s band, Midnight North, who performed at the intimate SOBs club in New York, NY last night. Both musicians are between shows with their respective bands, as Lesh is performing at the Capitol Theatre with Phil Lesh & Friends and Bob Weir will hit the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA with Dead & Company, tonight.

Deadheadland is reporting that Weir joined in the band first, lending his guitar to “West LA Fadeaway” and “Looks Like Rain”. Lesh then joined in, and together (with Midnight North), they performed “Mr. Charlie” and “Playing In The Band”. Then Weir left, and Lesh stuck around for “Cumberland Blues” and “Bird Song”.

Finally, Lesh returned later in the night for “Wind And Roses”, and finished the show with an encore performance of “Unbroken Chain”. Wow!

Despite the different thoughts these two venerated musicians have on touring, it’s nice to see them share the stage with such enthusiasm.
