Bob Weir & Wolf Bros returned to The Capitol Theatre for one more Saturday night at the stately and historic venue with special guest pianist Dred Scott.

For the penultimate night of the band’s five-show residency, Weir stuck to the same format as previous nights, taking the stage alone to open the show with a solo acoustic take on Memphis Jug Band‘s “K.C. Moan”. He then welcomed Wolf Bros Don Was and Jay Lane for a probing “Loser” jam before inviting Jeff Chimenti to join in on “Mission in the Rain” and then completing the core lineup with the addition of Barry Sless on the Merle Haggard classic “Mama Tried”. By the time band hit upon “Jack Straw”, it was time to welcome the full ten-piece ensemble including The Wolf Pack strings and horns.

The addition weren’t over yet, though. Following a nod to Bobby’s Ratdog with “Two Djinn” and a pairing of the Dead’s “Lost Sailor” and “Saint of Circumstances”, the band welcomed surprise special guest Dred Scott, who co-founded the ground-breaking hip-hop jazz group Alphabet Soup with Jay Lane and Kenny Brooks, who sat in on night one of the residency. Scott helped close out the set sitting in on piano alongside Chimenti on “Deal”.

Bob and the band dove right into set two with “Bombs Away”, followed by a string of Dead staples, with “Truckin'” and “Turn On Your Love Light” giving way to a seamless sequence of “Uncle John’s Band” > “Supplication” > “Uncle John’s Band”. The Deadhead favorites continued with “Lady With a Fan”, “Terrapin Station”, and “Days Between”, and the band capped off the set with the ever-predictable yet always-welcome “One More Saturday Night”.

After an encore break, Weir brought it home with a reflective “Ripple”.
