[UPDATE, 7/15/24]: Following the recent news that Neil Young has canceled the remainder of his 2024 summer tour dates, Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond has named Sting as his replacement on the festival’s lineup.
Young and his band, Crazy Horse, were due to tour throughout the summer but cleared their upcoming schedule after coming down with a persistent illness in late June. As Young wrote on his website, “The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far. GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST! When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again.”
Today, Bourbon & Beyond announced that the beloved English singer/bassist of The Police fame will step in for the recovering Canadian rock legend on the festival’s opening night (Thursday, September 19th) with his Sting 3.0 power trio, which also features guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas (Mumford & Sons, Maggie Rogers).
“We are excited to announce that rock icon STING is making his long-awaited debut at Bourbon & Beyond fronting his new power rock trio, STING 3.0,” organizers wrote in a social media post. “We’ve been working to bring him back to Louisville since 2018 and the stars have finally aligned to give you what you’ve been asking for. Performing the most electrifying hits from his vast catalog through the urgent lens of a tight three-piece combo, we can’t wait to see STING absolutely rock Bourbon!”
Sting and fellow Bourbon & Beyond 2024 headliners Zach Bryan, Dave Matthews Band, and Tyler Childers will lead a lineup featuring Beck, Matchbox Twenty, The National, My Morning Jacket, The War on Drugs, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Black Pumas, The Beach Boys, Mt. Joy, Fleet Foxes, Melissa Etheridge, Sierra Ferrell, Cory Wong, Dinosaur Jr., Larkin Poe, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, Lucius, JJ Grey & Mofro, Allen Stone, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The War and Treaty, Arlo Parks, Hiss Golden Messenger, Cimafunk, Futurebirds, Neal Francis, Samantha Fish, and more when the festival returns to Louisville from September 19th–22nd.
