The Who guitarist Pete Townshend has long been an advocate for drug addiction recovery, and come May 28th, he’ll be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for supporting the MusiCares MAP Fund. He’ll be presented with the award by legendary rocker Bruce Springsteen for a charity benefit event at the Best Buy Theater in NYC.

Townshend is also planning to perform live at the event, bringing along Billy Idol, Mick Jones (Foreigner), and Joan Jett – Jett has been opening for The Who on their current The Who Hits 50! tour.

Meanwhile, Who singer Roger Daltrey and Townshend have been discussing the possibility of a new Who album – the first since 2006’s Endless Wire. But for now, there are no concrete plans for more Who music. They have said that they might extend their current Who Hits 50! tour if they’re feeling up to it, and there’s a demand for more shows.

Tickets for the charity benefit are on sale now.
