In a statement shared to The Capitol Theatre’s social media outlets on Monday reads:

“In November of 2018, it was announced that Eventbrite would shut down Ticketfly and move customers to their new platform, Eventbrite Music. The acquisition affects The Capitol Theatre’s ability to sell reserved seated shows. We are proud to be Ticketfly’s first customer ever, and The Capitol Theatre was the first reserved seated venue they ever ticketed. This is a bittersweet moment for us.

After exploring various options, the results gave us a clear line of sight to move to Ticketmaster, the industry’s most proven and reliable ticketing platform. We believe you will benefit from an improved and curated fan experience, faster customer service, and an easier ability to transfer tickets to friends and family.”

The venue shared a follow-up statement a few hours later after many fans voiced their displeasure for “The Cap” deciding to partner with Ticketmaster, which has found itself as a topic of conversation regarding monopolistic practices in the live side of the industry since merging with Live Nation in 2010.

“To everyone who is feeling disappointed and frustrated, we hear your concerns and we want you to know that we are excited about the future of The Cap,” the venue also stated a few hours after the initial announcement. “We are continuing to grow because of you, our dedicated fans, who keep coming out to see the shows and the friendly staff you know and love. With growth, comes the need for a more powerful platform to sell and manage tickets and keep your data safe. We will continue to bring you your favorite artists, the same smiling faces at the door and behind the scenes, and the same Cap vibe you know and love.”

In the hours since the Monday morning announcement, fans have already started a petition against the ticketing platform chage via Change.org. 43 fans have signed the online petition as of 12:40 p.m. on Monday.

Upcoming events at the Port Chester theater include the There’s A Reward: A Celebration of the Life & Music of Neal Casal tribute show, The Head and the Heart, and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, to name a few.
