Chance The Rapper on Monday rounded out his And We Back Tour, a national run of theater dates promoting his 2025 LP, Star Line, the Chicago emcee’s first studio album since 2019.

Per a press release about Star Line, “The independent project reflects Chance’s global journey, artistically, spiritually, and physically, over the past six years. Created with longtime producer DexLvL and shaped by travels to Ghana, Jamaica, and art fairs around the world, Star Line blends hip-hop, soul, and experimental sounds with lyrical meditations on identity, resilience, and legacy. … While Chance has circled the globe in search of new perspectives, Star Line remains grounded in the worldview that has always defined Chance’s art: a deep, unshakable connection to Chicago and to Black culture across the diaspora.”

While Chance rose to fame via the success of his early mixtapes, which won Grammy Awards and challenged existing delineations between “albums” and “mixtapes” in general, his first official studio album didn’t come until 2019. Star Line served as the follow-up to that official debut, The Big Day, though the live treatment for that record never materialized as his planned The Big Tour was postponed and later canceled due to personal conflicts.

This past Thursday at San Francisco, CA’s Masonic Auditorium, as he did throughout the tour, Chance performed the vast majority of the tracks from Star Line in addition to a curated selection of fan-favorites from past releases Acid Rap and Coloring Book. Notably absent were all 22 tracks from The Big Day—an unsurprising fact given that the album revolves around his wedding to Kirsten Corely, and the couple’s divorce was just finalized earlier this year.

With a new album worth of material and new life experiences to bear, Chance The Rapper’s And We Back Tour preferred to leave some parts of the past in the past. Instead, it closed the loop on a years-long detour and made good on “the big raincheck” with a live run that smiled and winked at the old days but planted its feet in the now.
