Chess Club, a new duo project featuring Champagne (Adam Chase) on drums and Paris (Danny Darress) on keys and vocals, combines humorous themes with serious musicianship on its debut EP, They Wanted a Demo.

Featuring contributions from A-list players Isaiah Sharkey (guitar) and Felix Pastorius (bass), They Wanted a Demo includes four playful songs recorded live at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. The lyrics address relatable but rarely sung-about experiences like getting caught trying to read someone’s shirt, wanting to offer a date a breath mint, and trying to end a relationship without saying, “It’s Not Me, It’s You”.

The funny tone of the project is balanced by well-crafted compositions, expert playing and soulful vocals, and top-notch production. The EP was mixed by Vulfpeck‘s Cory Wong.
