Guitarist Cory Wong has shared pro-shot video, as well as audio, of his recent homecoming show from February 9th at Minneapolis, MN’s Fine Line Music Cafe.
Wong was joined by drummer Petar Janjic, keyboardist Kevin Gastonguay, bassist Kevin MacIntire, trombonist Michael Nelson, trumpeter Steve Strand, and Kenni Holmen on reeds/piccolo, as well as guest vocalist and opening performer Emily Browning for his Twin City throwdown.
The Vulfpeck guitarist opened up the extended one-set affair with his signature “NFL Sports”/”Overture” before working through “The Optimist”, the title track off of his August 2018 studio release. Cory continued with another The Optimist track “Jax”, followed by “Dial Up” and Cory’s “Sales Pitch – Jam Band Starter Pack” monologue.
Cory continued with “Cameron”, “Frogville”, “Clouds”, and some “Smooth Jazz Hype” before launching into “Friends At Sea”, his recent collaboration with Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling saxophonist Dave Koz. Cory brought his set to a close with “Sidestep”, “’91 Maxima”, and “Juke Jelly”, which Emily Browning lending a helping hand on the latter. A two-song pairing of “Lunchtime” and “Companion Pass” served as the evening’s encore.
