Well, it’s been a little over a month since Cory Wong‘s last album so it’s about time for another. On Friday, the Grammy-winning multi-hyphenate announced his latest studio endeavor, The Paisley Park Session. The new album was recorded live at Prince‘s famous home studio in Chanhassen, MN.

Along with Friday’s announcement, Wong shared a high-energy rendition of Fearless Flyers‘ “Assassin”. The track, along with the rest of the album, was also captured visually and will premiere as a full video experience on Thursday, October 28th ahead of the album’s release the following day. Fans can tune in for the exclusive video premiere on Mandolin.

The “Assassin” video pits Wong in the studio with a powerhouse lineup of Sonny T (bass), Kevin Gastonguay (organ/keyboard), Petar Janjic (drums), and Negah Santos (percussion), and the six-piece horn section known as The Hornheads. The track is frenetic but expertly calculated, as the raucous energy of the uptempo funk is met with absolute precision.

Wong said of the new album,

Paisley Park is such a legendary place to record music. It was Prince’s studio and even home for years. Studio A was his sanctuary. Coming back to Paisley Park and recording my songs was an absolute joy. The band was HOT that day and it shows in the recording. I grew up just on the other side of town from Paisley Park and this was my first time recording in Studio A. It was fun to watch and listen to The Hornheads and Sonny T tell stories about countless hours and nights in the studio, and hear about the music they made there that’s both become hit songs AND never been released before. The creative energy in the studio is palpable, and you hear/see it in this session.

Also…I got to record with Prince’s Cloud Guitar!!!!! What?!
