Cory Wong has shared a new music video for “Cosmic Sans” featuring guitarist/producer Tom Misch. The song acts as the second shared track to appear on the high-energy funk guitarist’s forthcoming solo album, Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul.

The video for the new single showcases Wong and Misch playing away in the studio while drummer Nate Smith grooves away on the drums to give the song its pulsating beat. Wong is seen strumming away on his Fender Stratocaster with a lively rhythm chord progression underneath Misch’s lead guitar work. Misch’s guitar tone on the track really utilizes an Envelope Filter effect to deliver smooth-sounding lead lines, allowing his instrument to shine without sounding too intense and overpowering Wong, who is seated directly across from him.

“Tom and I have been aware of each other’s music for quite a while but hadn’t had a chance to interact until he was hanging in L.A. for a week doing some writing and creative exploration,” Wong shared in a statement about the new collaboration. “We hung out just as a couple of guitar players who wanted to jam. I had a couple chord progressions and grooves I was messing with the day before, so we started jamming on it over a drum loop. We put a song form together and recorded it. I took the guitar parts and started putting some of my production on it; adding other instruments and shaping the sound; and it turned out to be a real banger!“
The new single follows the previously-released “Limited World” featuring Caleb Hawley as the second single from Wong’s upcoming album, which is due out on August 2nd. The album follows the 2018 release of Wong’s The Optimist. The funk guitarist also recently released a live compilation album of recordings initially performed throughout his 2019 European tour.
Wong was in California over the weekend for a pair of Vulfpeck performances at the Greek Theatre. Wong’s next scheduled performance will be at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday, July 19th, opening up for The String Cheese Incident. Head to Wong’s website for tickets and tour info.
