If you remember, there was uproar about Daft Punk having to cancel on The Colbert Report at the very last minute to appear at the VMAs as part of an “exclusive.”

Well, yes. Daft Punk did in fact appear on the VMAs. What their appearance entailed is a completely different story. They ended up accompanying Pharell Williams and Nile Rodgers to give an award to Taylor Swift.

The appearance marked the making of an unsettled dispute between Stephen Colbert and MTV. Daft Punk was to appear on The Colbert Report in early August, only to cancel. Colbert said MTV prevented the duo from appearing on his show, citing the VMA appearance was meant as an exclusive. MTV has since denied that charge.
