With all the hype surrounding Daft Punk‘s new album, Random Access Memories, it’s easy to forget that the duo’s last proper album, 2005′s Human After All, peaked at #98 on the US Billboard chart. This time around, things are different, as Billboard is reporting that Random Access Memories will debut at #1, with 339,000 album sales, well above the 300,000 that analysts had predicted.
Someone in Columbia’s marketing department deserves a gold medal. The slow, calculated build up to this album was executed perfectly, with most details witheld until only months before the album was set to be released. The vague trailer on SNL, the projections at Ultra, and the commercial during Coachella, only added to the mystique, creating one of the most highly anticipated albums in recent memory.
Daft Punk has recently announced plans to remix the entire album themselves. You can also read our review of Random Access Memories, here.
