Today, it was tragically revealed that Daisy Berkowitz (also known as Scott Putesky), a co-founding member of and guitarist for Marilyn Manson (also known as Brian Warner), has died at the age of 49 following an ongoing battle with colon cancer since his diagnosis in 2013. Berkowitz formed Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids with Manson in 1989 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and took his stage name from Daisy Duke of Dukes Of Hazzard and serial killer David Berkowitz.

At the project’s inception, Berkowitz played guitar, bass, keys, and drum machine, though he also offered Manson vocal advice and taught him about the recording process. After scrapping their initial attempt at a debut album, Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids’ joined forces with Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor, who helped them produce 1994’s Portrait of an American Family. Berkowitz left the group citing creative differences in 1996 as the band was recording 1996’s Antichrist Superstar, though Berkowitz still received credit for six tracks of the record.

Berkowitz began to perform under his birth initials SMP after his departure from Marilyn Manson, eventually joining riot grrl band Jack Off Jill in 1998. Today, Jack Off Jill confirmed Putesky’s death via its Facebook page. Rest in peace, Scott.
