On Friday, December 16th, residents of Denver, CO, have the opportunity to enjoy a great evening of music while giving back to their community. Make It Groovy Productions and Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom will be throwing the second annual Dance of the Sugar Plum Deepness, a soiree that spans two venues and that benefits the Denver Rescue Mission. The evening consists of two-parts, with attendants being treated to a swanky gala dinner event at the Savoy at Curtis Park in the earlier part of the night before a ride and admittance to Jans Ingber’s Funk Fellowship over at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom.

The formal portion of the evening occurs at the Savoy at Curtis Park, where guests are encouraged to dress to the nines for a meal provided by Blue Note Catering, ballroom dancing lessons taught by Katie Scotten, and live music. The house band for the dinner, the Band of Deepness, includes a selection of Denver’s finest musicians, such as Emily Clark, Tanya Shylock, Matthew Walton, Dan Schwindt, Alex Johnson, Tim Philpott, Adam Revelle, Nicholas Gerlach, and Jon Gray, who will be bustin’ out holiday songs straight out of the 1920s.

After dinner and dancing, Elevate Rides will provide a shuttle from the Savoy to Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom for Jans Ingber’s Funk Fellowship. Formerly a staple of the Denver music scene as the singer for the Motet before moving to Oregon, Jans Ingber will be returning to Denver, CO, and has gathered a solid crew of musicians to throw down some funk jams for the late-night portion of the festivities. The Fellowship will include Isaiah Sharkey (Anderson. Paak) on guitar, Sharay Reed (Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan) on bass, Steveland Swatkins (Allen Stone) on keyboard, Jarrod Lawson, and Alvin Ford Jr. (Pretty Lights Live Band, Dumpstaphunk) on drums.

Emily Clark, one of the organizers of the event and singer with the Band of Deepness, had this to say about the event: “It’s hard not to notice the homeless population in Denver; we see it every day. This event is our way of giving back to the neighborhood in our own way, and we’re so grateful for all the people who are coming together to support a good cause.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the Cervantes’ website. More information about the Denver Rescue Mission, the charity the event benefits, and how it serves the Denver homeless population can be found here.
