In November, David Bowie shared a video to the title track to his new album (pronounced Blackstar), which comes out tomorrow, and it was ten minutes of straight up weirdness. In December, he released the audio to a new single entitled ‘Lazarus’, also the title track to Bowie’s recent stage production of Lazarus starring Michael C. Hall, and it was also really weird. Today, he’s released the music video for ‘Lazarus’, which is directed by one of the Breaking Bad directors John Renck, and it is even weirder.

In what seems to be a sequel to the ‘Blackstar’ video, watch Bowie bedridden in a hospital ward with the same strange, button-eyed bandage, in the video for ‘Lazarus’:

Musically speaking, the dark and mellowing mood of ‘Lazarus’ is perfect for Bowie’s still sultry vocals. The inclusion of a horn section takes the track to an entire different level with a soaring finish.

In a press release, the video’s director Renck explained, “One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice. Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound… I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.”
