According to a report by Rolling Stone, ZZ Top axeman Billy Gibbons met up with EDM DJ David Gibbons in Ibiza, and the duo recorded a number of collaborative tracks. We can only hope these ZZ Top-esque dance tracks are released soon.
As Gibbons describes, I wanted to know how they did certain things, and of course they were badgering me to bring the guitar to the forefront. They said, ‘Y’know, the only thing missing in dance music is a good guitar player.’ I said, ‘Let’s see if we can bring the two together and make it shake.'”
Gibbons went on to explain that they recorded eight or ten tracks, and, while a foray into EDM may be surprising, ZZ Top has always been about taking risks with their music. “A lot of people have overlooked the fact that one of the things that made (ZZ Top’s) Eliminator so interesting was the opportunity to go into that experimental side of things and fool around with the coolest new toys that could be found in the recording studio,” said Gibbons. “I’m always fascinated by that, so my time in Spain was very fruitful.”
No date yet on the exact release of the rock-fueled EDM tracks, but, from the description, we can’t wait to hear them.
