Once again, Eric Krasno gave Jazz Fest diehards a phenomenal way to spend the lull in between weekends with a two-show edition of his all-star collaboration known as the Daze Between Band. After last year’s now-legendary show and its moving tributes to Gregg AllmanCol. Bruce Hampton, and Butch Trucks, the word was out that these shows were not to be missed.

Over two nights at two separate venues, Krasno and two-thirds of Widespread Panic‘s rhythm section, Duane Trucks and Dave Schools, were joined by luminaries like organists John Medseski (Medeski, Martin and Wood) and Deshawn Alexander (Marcus King Band), guitarists Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Ghost Light) and Marcus King, and even a special guest or two over almost five hours of breathtaking jams.

Though Krasno has had plenty of experience in the impromptu super jams that fill the New Orleans late night during Jazz Fest, he takes the Daze Between Band as seriously as he has any of his projects like Soulive or Lettuce. The artists gathered for rehearsals, drilled the changes, and put in a lot of work in advance. That effort paid off in spades as, on both nights and at both venues, crowds were evenly split by fans who couldn’t stop dancing to the irresistible grooves and fans who were rooted to the spot, held in place by the immense musical gravity being laid down. With song selections from everyone from the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, and John Scofield all the way to Smokey Robinson and beyond, everyone in the audience easily found something they could groove on.

We’ve got some incredible exclusive footage of both nights to share with you, starting with an amazing multi-camera video from the first night’s live stream presented by The Legendary Underground Game of ZONK, and several clips from our own Rex-A-Vision that feature wonderful soundboard audio. Check them out and go ahead and start making your travel plans for next year, because it seems like Krasno is dead-set on making the Daze Between Band not just a regular thing but the best side band.
