[5/5/24]: After two days of stellar sets and unforgettable collaborations at Daze Between New Orleans, a sold-out crowd of live music aficionados still eager for more packed into Tipitina’s for the annual Daze Between Band performance led by musical director/guitarist Eric Krasno as part of Live For Live Music‘s Fest By Nite series.

This year’s edition of the collaborative funk jam featured some of the top performers from the Daze Between festival and more, including jazz-fusion guitarist John Scofield, The Rolling Stones keyboardist/musical director Chuck Leavell, Dumpstaphunk keyboardist/vocalist Ivan Neville, legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter Jr. of The Meters fame, Dumpstaphunk bass/guitar/vocals triple-threat Tony Hall, guitarist and Allman Brothers Band son Duane Betts, Trey Anastasio Band trumpeter and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, Lettuce saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and former Dumpstaphunk drummer Raymond Weber.

The rotating all-star ensemble jammed on a wide range of familiar tunes starting with the Allman Brothers Band’s “Dreams”, John Scofield’s “Hottentot”, and “Deal” by the Grateful Dead.

Duane Betts paid tribute to his late father and ABB co-founder Dickey Betts, who passed away just weeks prior, by recreating his iconic leads in “Jessica” with harmonies by Eric Krasno. The song also featured a solo from Chuck Leavell, who played on the original recording.

Other highlights included The Rolling Stones’ “Miss You”, Allmans classics “Southbound” and “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”, an incendiary pairing of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Fire” into The Meters’ “Fire on the Bayou”, and another funky Meters favorite, “It Ain’t No Use” featuring George Porter Jr.
