Venue – Mahalia Jackson Theater

After three years at the now-closed Faubourg Brewery in New Orleans East, the fourth edition of Daze Between New Orleans is set to take place at the historic Mahalia Jackson Theater, conveniently located in Louis Armstrong Park steps away from the French Quarter in the historic Tremé neighborhood. Billed performances will take place in the venue’s spacious indoor theater, while the outdoor area surrounding the venue’s lavish fountains will transform into the free Daze Between Block Party (details below) featuring food trucks, craft vendors, and live brass bands before and between sets in the theater.

The Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, originally named the New Orleans Theater for the Performing Arts, first opened more than 50 years ago. It was renamed in 1995 to honor the iconic gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. Before Hurricane Katrina, it was the home of the New Orleans Opera Association and the New Orleans Ballet Association and held occasional performances by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and other groups. While the Mahalia Jackson Theater was severely damaged in Hurricane Katrina, it was later renovated and reopened in early 2009. It has since hosted a variety of performances and events, from live concerts to touring Broadway theater productions and beyond.
