Dead & Company made their second stop of summer tour last night in Camden, New Jersey for their first of two nights at BB&T Pavilion. After a shaky tour opener in Mansfield, the Grateful Dead spinoff band featuring guitarists Bob Weir and John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann synced up for a glorious night of music to set the tone for the weekend.

The party started with a “Jack Straw” opener, shared by Bob Weir and John Mayer, leading straight into “Cold Rain & Snow”. The energy was palpable from the start and only continued to expand with Georgia Crackers staple, “Deep Elem Blues”. From there, Dead & Company debuted their version of “Jack-A-Roe”, marking the third debut of the tour thus far. The first set continued with Jerry Garcia‘s “Loser” and Grateful Dead’s “Bertha”, before closing with Bob Weir’s “Cassidy”, which was bookended by a “Jack Straw” reprise.

The second set picked right back up with a full-band version of “Not Fadeaway”, singing the first and second verses and leaving the third for the end of the set. The jam led into a heavy “Dark Star” and “St. Stephen” combo, before John Mayer took lead on “Black Muddy River”. The percussionists were left alone for the “Drums” and “Space” portion of the evening, before the rest of the band returned for “The Wheel”. A cover of Paul Simon‘s “Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes” came next, followed by “Wharf Rat”, before the second set closed with the third verse of “Not Fade Away”. After a short break, Dead & Company closed the show with “Ripple”.
