Dead & Company returned to Las Vegas, NV’s Sphere on Friday night for this week’s second of three performances and the eighth night of the Dead Forever residency overall.

The Grateful Dead offshoot comprised of Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, and Jay Lane has continued to gradually expand the setlist rotation over the course of the residency’s first three weekends. After adding five new entries to that list on Thursday, Dead & Company on Friday gave “New Speedway Boogie”, “Row Jimmy”, “Don’t Ease Me In”, and “Black Muddy River” their first Sphere performances.

Beyond the new additions to the Sphere rotation, the back half of the setlist reads like most Deadheads’ dreams: After starting with “Uncle John’s Band” and a classic pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider”, the show continued into the cosmos with an uninterrupted “Dark Star” > “Drums” > “Space” > “Stella Blue” > “Terrapin Station” > “Hell In A Bucket”. An emotional “Black Muddy River” closed the set on a serene note before a “Casey Jones” encore revved things up for one last dance party. Hot damn…
