The brief feud between the biggest dance music star of the past quarter century, and arguably the biggest dance music star of the moment has come to an uneventful close. Madonna and Deadmau5 reconciled today via social media, as Madonna posted an old picture of herself in Mickey Mouse ears on Twitter, along with a caption reading “From one mouse to another, I don’t support drug use and I never have, I was referring to the song called ‘Have You Seen Molly’ written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my album”. Deadmau5 apparently accepted this explanation, writing back “fair enough, i was just voicing my concerns as i usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally”. After Madonna responded to this saying she wished they could have cleared it up privately, Deadmau5 responded “just be a little more aware of what you *should* represent at EDM events, and I’ll watch my mouth”.
And just like that, one of the most interesting and bizarre feuds in music has seemingly come to an end. Personally, this feels like a giant PR squash – is it really better that Madonna was only referencing a song about drugs, rather than the drugs themselves?
