Deadmau5, AKA Joel Zimmerman, has had a tumultuous month. Splitting with both his long time girlfriend Kat Von D and record label Ultra Records, Zimmerman has every excuse to be distracted from producing new tracks. Yet with the release of two brand spankin new tracks he’s clearly not taking advantage of any of them.

Featuring the typical extended builds and hypnotically repetitive beats of any Deadmau5 track, “You There?” and “Suckfest9001″ are perfectly descriptive of his unique style. Reaching a melodic breakdown at 3 minutes, “Suckfest9001″ includes sets of beautiful resonating chords, contrary to its misleading title. These morph into a classically complex head bobbing bassline.

“You There?” has the potential to totally trip listeners out with its 3 second periods of total silence at regular intervals throughout the track. Much less melodic than “Suckfest9001,” “You There?” may only be for seasoned Deadmau5 fans but is clearly a masterpiece of musical production.

Ending his contract with Ultra Records seems to have agreed with the Mau5 and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for his production. If these two newest releases are any indication, I believe we can all look forward from what is to come from Joel Zimmerman.
