On April 6th, Primus commenced their five-date Australian tour in support of the group’s ninth studio album, The Desaturating Seven. Marking Primus’ first performances in Australia since 2014’s Big Day Out Festival, the Les Claypool-led trio tapped longtime friend Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo to open each show with a performance from his Dean Ween Group.

During Primus’ and The Dean Ween Group’s Sunday night show at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, the two frontmen swapped sit-ins, with Les Claypool first joining the Dean Ween Group before Mickey returned the favor with a guest appearance during Primus’ headlining performance. Both Dean and Les have a longstanding friendship and have exchanged sit-ins regularly in the past.

Initially, Claypool joined the Dean Ween Group for their take the title track of Ween’s 1997 album, The Mollusk. Later in the night, Dean came out for Primus’ extended encore, lending his skills on “Southbound Pachyderm”, a tune he previously sat-in on last July.
