On Friday, January 31st, Live For Live Music and AEG will throw an all-day music event worthy of kicking off the new decade with the inaugural Denver Comes Alive at Mission Ballroom.

Following in the footsteps of its East Coast predecessor, Brooklyn Comes Alive, Denver Comes Alive will mix in never-before-seen collaborations with members of nationally touring and fan-favorite acts including Dead & Company, Jerry Garcia Band, The Disco Biscuits, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Snarky Puppy, Soulive, Ghost-Note, Prince’s band, Break Science, Pretty Lights Live, The Motet, Dumpstaphunk, and more.

One of the lineup highlights for the inaugural winter event is a talent-rich Oteil Burbridge & Friends set which will see the beloved bassist team up with organist Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band), guitarists Eric Krasno (Soulive) and Scott Metzger (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), drummer Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit), vocalist Alfreda Gerald, and percussionist Weedie Braimah for a very special, “Mile High” performance.

Of course, while the festivities will take place in Denver, the event as a whole aims to capture a bit of the spontaneous, collaborative nature of New Orleans Jazz Fest after dark. With so much talent in the house for Denver Comes Alive, this all-star cast seems destined for surprise collaborations beyond the artists billed.

As one of the most talented and accomplished bass players in rock music, Oteil Burbridge has built a resume that some players only dream of—from his ongoing gigs in Grateful Dead spinoff behemoth Dead & Company and Phish keyboardist Page McConnell‘s Vida Blue to his past roles with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Col. Bruce Hampton‘s Aquarium Rescue Unit and, of course, a fifteen-year stint as a member of the iconic Allman Brothers Band. In so many ways, Oteil is the glue that holds the jam community together.

Oteil’s fingerprints have been all over the live music community for over three decades. Following the 2017 release of his solo album, Water in the Desert, Burbridge introduced his new project, Oteil & Friends, which has quickly become one of the most exciting acts in the genre, headlining festivals and theater dates nationwide alongside a rotating cast of ace musicians. A collaborative project to its very core, Oteil & Friends is the perfect act for Denver Comes Alive.
