No matter what its flavor, Devo co-founder Jerry Casale showed no taste in his choice of wedding cakes.  In a joke that surely had to have been objected to every step of the way, TMZ reported that, at his wedding last Friday, September 11th, Casale and his bride Krista Napp had a “Twin Towers” shaped wedding cake, as well as box cutter place cards for his guests.  While there is no rational explanation for the couple’s choice of a “9-11” theme for their wedding, it’s made sadder by the fact that none of the guests seem to have minded.

Humor is important.  It helps us see and deal with a lot of important issues in the world that are difficult to discuss otherwise.  that said, we have no idea what thought he was trying to express, other than “How funny is it that we’re getting married on the anniversary of the death of over two thousand innocents?  Am I right?” Now, he will always have three reasons to remember the date; it’s the anniversary of an American tragedy, the declaration of his love for his bride and the day he lost the respect of the families and friends of those lost that terrible day.  We can only wait for his feeble “Can’t you people take a joke?” and insincere “I deeply regret…” apologies that are sure to follow.  It’s baffling that any musician could be this tone deaf when it comes to humor.
