Dogs In A Pile made their eighth trip to Garcia’s a special one with the debut of two new original songs and a Rolling Stones cover. The rising jam quintet’s Thursday show at The Capitol Theatre‘s side club in Port Chester, NY also marked their first sellout at the venue.

The band—comprised of guitarist/vocalist Jimmy Law, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, guitarist/vocalist Brian Murray, drummer Joe Babick, and bassist Sam Lucid—front-loaded the first set with road-tested originals including “Crazy”, “Westward”, and a pairing of “Blues for Brian” and “Snow Day”. The back half of the set also included “Thomas Duncan Part 2” before Dogs In A Pile paid tribute to the venue’s namesake with Grateful Dead‘s “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” and finally closed with “G Song”.

It was clear that Dogs In A Pile had plenty of surprises in store when they returned for set two with “Stranger” and the debut of a new original tune, “Frosty”. A “Bubble” > “EDM Song” combo came next ahead of a rendition of “Brent Strange” that included a tease of Phish instrumental “What’s The Use?”. The Dogs then dedicated the ensuing “Spun” to keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan‘s father before segueing into the second original debut of the evening, “Appleseed”. The debuts kept on coming as the band performed its first-ever take on The Rolling Stones’ “Shine A Light”—dedicated to the nycfreaks community—before closing the show with “Charlie”.
