Dogs In A Pile linked up with Molly Tuttle for a Grateful Dead cover at the first Mountain Jam since 2019. The fan-favorite independent festival found its new home at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, NY over the weekend.

After harpist Mikaela Davis kicked things off on the Mountain Stage, Asbury Park jam upstarts Dogs In A Pile were up next for their Mountain Jam debut. Tuttle was set to take the stage after Dogs, but the bluegrass guitarist came out a little early to lend the band a hand on “New Speedway Boogie”.

Singer/rhythm guitarist Jimmy Law showed off his bluesy, Bob Weir-esque pipes on the Workingman’s Dead favorite that Dogs hadn’t played since June 15th, 2023, a gap of 269 shows per Go-Set.net. Though Tuttle has been crowned Guitar Player of the Year twice by the International Bluegrass Music Awards, she had no problem amending her playing for “New Speedway Boogie” as she swapped solos with Law and Brian Murray. This marked Dogs and Tuttle’s second encounter in eight days, having both played at All Good Now at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Saturday, June 14th (though they did not collaborate onstage).

Dogs In A Pile have a full slate of festival appearances next month, including sets at High Sierra, Levitate, 4848, Secret Dreams, and more, while Tuttle heads off to ROMPBlue OxSummerfest, High Sierra, and Grassfire.
