Jimmy Fallon was one of the featured guests to appear on Dolly Parton‘s new holiday album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, which arrived back in early October. For his cameo, the late-night host helped Parton sing on the popular holiday anthem, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
On Thursday, Parton debuted her new music video for the song, which sees herself and Fallon get the animation treatment for the Christmas hit made famous by Mariah Carey.
The video begins with an animated Parton and Fallon conversing over “Vroom” video chat software—surely a nod to the emergent communication platforms amid the ongoing pandemic. Her and Fallon playfully discuss their desire to be with one another on Christmas before Dolly mentions how she has always wanted to sing a duet with Jimmy. Parton then begins singing the song’s memorable first verse in her bedroom as she puts on her best Mrs. Claus dress. Fallon interjects his own harmonies throughout Parton’s verse. After sharing the chorus together, Fallon takes his own verse, which similarly sees Parton adding in her own harmonies. During the video, Parton drives her sleigh from “Dollywood” to her own concert, while Fallon uses a variety of transportation methods, including a plane which he parachutes from, to make it to the same stage. The two trade lines back and forth as the song moves to the third verse, leading up to the song’s climax, which the two share from Parton’s stage in front of a large, animated crowd.
