According to the Associated Press, via BiFrost Pictures, Don Cheadle will be playing jazz legend Miles Davis (who died in 1991 at age 65) in a biopic titled Kill the Trumpet Player. The film will not only star Cheadle, but will also see the star make his directorial debut, of which he will work off the script he wrote with Steven Baigelman.

BiFrost Pictures revealed that the movie will focus on Davis’ temporary retirement from music and his eventual comeback in 1979. Cheadle has attempted to make the film for several years now.

Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana will also appear in the movie, as a Rolling Stone reporter and as Frances Davis, the jazz icon’s former wife, respectively. Herbie Hancock, a longtime collaborator of Davis’, will be involved in the production of the film.
