Dopapod was all set to celebrate their album release party for their latest effort Never Odd Or Even at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre w/ Teddy Midnight and Alan Evans’ Playonbrother, and was well into the celebration, when a speaker caught fire at the tail-end of their first set. As the group was getting to the finish line during a monster “Vol 3 #86,” a sea of hands could be seen pointing up at the ceiling. With a puzzled band onstage, the house screen coming down, and a very responsive Gramercy staff ushering people out of the building, a faint whiff of something on fire made its way into our nasal passages.

We made our way out into the cold, New York night, many of us with our coats still at the coatcheck, but thankful that things were handled professionally with our best interests in mind. The scene outside was a bit of a scene, as four fire trucks showed up. As can be seen in the cover photo, a speaker went up in flames, which prompted the venue and production crew to go into action. The rest of the show was cancelled due to “flammable equipment,” and luckily no one was injured. We guess next time around Dopapod will be playing an extra long show to make up for this unfortunate incident.

But, hey, it must be pretty cool to say that your music literally set the venue on fire.

The band posted the following message to their Facebook page:

NYC Folks: We’re offering half priced admission to our show tonight in Philadelphia to anybody who brings their ticket stub from last night. Apologies for things getting cut short. That was out of anybody’s hands and we’re just happy that nobody got hurt. We’ll be making up for the lost time next time around. Just wait

Also, HUGE props to the staff at The Gramercy Theatre for quickly getting everyone out of the venue. They stopped a potentially terrible situation from being just that. Thank you & see everyone tonight!
