Dopapod has announced the launch of ‘Dopapod Lessons’, the band’s new online teaching service.

A press release announcing the launch stated that Eli WindermanRob CompaChuck Jones, and Neal “Fro” Evans will all be available to give private, specialized lessons. The band also noted that, “If learning how to play songs, building that perfect technique, music theory, and the art of improv really isn’t your thing have no fear. Dopapod Lessons will also give fans the opportunity to have their own personal hang out with a band member(s) of your choice.”

‘Dopapod Lessons’ adds to the growing list of bands and musicians offering online lessons during the COVID-19 crisis that has effectively shut down the live music industry. Bands like Lettuce and Snarky Puppy have started their own band-specific online teaching services. Meanwhile, Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein‘s Live Lesson Masters has grouped an ever-growing number of musicians together on one service in a Masterclass-like format.

Compa himself is no stranger to the teaching game, as he has been providing guitar instruction for nearly 15 years. Even as touring with Dopapod became more of a full-time job, he still continued to teach lessons over Skype as a way of helping other musicians as well as himself.

“It also always reminds me why I started playing in the first place,” Compa told Live For Live Music. “The older I get, the harder it is to find a new musical concept or skill or artist that really blows my mind or makes me think differently. It still happens, but the older we get, the longer the intervals between those moments become. By showing someone something and watching their lightbulb go off in their head, even over something as small as learning a new chord, I still get to have that feeling of excitement through them.”
