During the inaugural Phish run at Sphere last year, the band made a new fan in The Price Is Right host Drew Carey. After graphically professing his newfound admiration in a series of NSFW posts on X during the 2024 shows, Carey came on down to explain it a bit more eloquently on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
While making the rounds to promote the upcoming 10,000th episode of The Price Is Right (of which Carey has hosted 3,317 so far), Carey took a moment to spotlight his side hustle as a Phish after-show DJ. A former on-air DJ for SiriusXM‘s Little Steven’s Underground Garage, Carey took his talents to the highly competitive Phish New Year’s Eve after-party market for a late-night performance immediately following the band’s EDM spectacle at Madison Square Garden. His stage name, of course, was DJ Blender, a reference to his now-iconic post explaining which of his appendages he’d put in a kitchen appliance to catch another Phish show at Sphere.
“When you go to see Phish, I’m telling ya [imitates fist-bumping] ‘Hey bro, hey bro,'” Carey summarized of the largely male audience. “You see a lot of dudes with wedding rings all together, not a wife in sight.”

Speaking like an anthropologist discovering a lost civilization, Carey describes the familiar hallmarks of a Phish concert: hippie chicks, dudes with vapes, and a crowd where “Everyone dances like Elaine.” Like any time Phish is mentioned in popular culture, the connection was made between seeing the band and recreational drug use. Carey confirmed that he did indeed have “the full Phish experience,” as Kimmel put it, and said seeing the band at MSG was like walking through New York City in winter as plumes of smoke rose up from the floor like steam through a sewer grate.
Watch Drew Carey further evangelize his love for Phish to Jimmy Kimmel in the clip below, starting at 5:45. Find tickets for Phish’s spring and summer tour here. Hopefully, you’ll have as good of a time as Drew Carey did.
