Just moments after Phish wrapped up an incredible two-night stint at the historic Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, tragedy struck one of their fans.
Chad Kneesel, age 38, was apparently walking along State Highway 120 last Sunday night, after the Alpine show, when a drunken driver hit him. Local paper The Gazette Extra reports that Kneesel was found unresponsive and taken to the hospital, but died shortly thereafter from his injuries. The individual driving under the influence, Dipen Patel, was apprehended by authorities. Reports indicate that Patel was not at the Phish concert.
Some friends who knew the victim have been sharing their thoughts in this Phantasy Tour thread, though a majority of the posts are simply well-wishers sending “Vibes” out to the original poster, a friend of the deceased. Given the community spirit that Phish inspires, it’s never easy to lose a loved one, especially in such an unfair and tragic way.
