Allman Brothers Band kin Duane Betts honored the music of his father Dickey Betts during a weekend stop in New Jersey. Duane’s Sunday show with his backing band Palmetto Motel at Morristown’s The Homestead came in support of his solo debut, Wild & Precious Life.
Along with his well of original music, Betts paid tribute to the greats who came before him by reuniting the music of the Allman Brothers with the group’s old friends the Grateful Dead. Duane and his band stitched together a standalone “Franklin’s Tower” with the ABB classic “Blue Sky”, calling to mind the many collaborations between both bands, most notably at the historic 1973 Summer Jam. Elsewhere in the show, Betts also tackled the Allman epic “Whipping Post” for a lengthy jam, as well as a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Oh Well”.
