Veteran funk outfit Dumpstaphunk has shared more details on the forthcoming arrival of their next studio album, Where Do We Go From Here, which is due out April 23rd via Mascot Label Group/The Funk Garage.
The band has already shared a pair of new original songs that will appear on the album, including “Where Do We Go From Here” and “Justice 2020”, with the latter featuring guest appearances from rapper Chali 2na and fellow New Orleans musician Trombone Shorty. The band is also scheduled to perform more of their new material with an appearance on NPR‘s World Cafe on Monday.
In addition to new originals, Where Do We Go From Here will also include a number of covers including Blackmail‘s “Let’s Get At It”, Sly & The Family Stone‘s “In Time”, and Buddy Miles‘ “United Nations Stomp” featuring guest guitar contributions courtesy of Marcus King.
“We hope people can hear the new songs and are inclined to dance, and inspired to think at the same time,” Dumpstaphunk pianist/singer Ivan Neville added in a press statement to go with Monday’s announcement. “Obviously, the New Orleans history is just embedded in us, but we manage to incorporate all the other stuff we’ve listened to over the years. We’re representing a legacy, but we’re reimagining a lot of it, too.”
