A huge collection of items belonging to late ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill is up for auction by Julien’s Auctions this week, including his iconic furry bass guitar from the “Legs” music video and clothing items from some of his favorite onstage looks.

Among the other items going under the hammer are Hill’s favorite Stetson cowboy hat, which was once stolen and recovered after Hill went on the radio to make an on-air appeal requesting its return, signed animation cells from his appearance on King of the Hill (starring his “cousin” Hank Hill), ornate custom jackets, shirts, boots, jewelry and other clothing items, including a jacket made by the famous Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors worn on the cover of ZZ Top’s 1975 album Fandango!, and much more.

Another interesting piece included in the auction is a custom-made oil derrick gold nugget ring accented with four circular-cut diamonds. According to his wife Charleen “Chuck,” Hill once invested in an oil prospecting scheme but no oil was found, so he commissioned the ring to serve as a reminder to never again try his hand at prospecting and to stick instead to what he did best, making music.

The collection is currently on display in a popup shop in Dallas ahead of the three live auction sessions on the evenings of Decembers 7th, 8th, and 9th.
