Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes, the new band led by The New Mastersounds guitarist, has released a new single, “Sweet Dreams”, from the band’s forthcoming debut album.

Arriving as the followup to the band’s debut single, “Whiskey Makes Me Stronger”, “Sweet Dreams” conveys the group’s unique blend of jazzy funk, funky blues, and bluesy rock, with equal parts groove and attitude. The track builds off a funky blues guitar riff Roberts sent Mississippi-based vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Shelby Kemp (Royal Horses), who penned lyrics while toying with different melodies for the hook and then added additional layers inspired by the harmonies he sang with his mother while sitting in the car with her as a kid. The sound is rounded out by a rhythm section comprised of Florida-based sisters Ashely Galbraith on bass and Taylor Galbraith on drums.

As for the lyrical content, “The song is transparently about someone who is preying upon your mind for a while and the need to lay eyes or hands on them to ease your mind, but the character in the song seems to be a bit difficult to nail down,” Kemp said. “Maybe they are a traveler of sorts or just unreliable, or maybe the protagonist is in denial about the reality of the relationship.”
