In March, Eddie Vedder headed to Arizona for an acoustic solo set at Innings Festival in Tempe, AZ. In addition to a selection of classic covers and Pearl Jam favorites, Vedder mixed a thoroughly appropriate new number into his setlist: “Maybe It’s Time”, one of the main songs Bradley Cooper‘s character sings in his multiple Oscar-nominated film, A Star Is Born. Vedder’s rendition of “Maybe It’s Time” was a full-circle occurrence. The number serves as the signature song for Cooper’s A Star Is Born character—a character based largely on Eddie Vedder himself.

As Bradley Cooper explained in the leadup to the release of A Star Is Born last year, Eddie Vedder played an integral role in shaping the details of Cooper’s character in the film, aging rocker Jackson Maine. As Bradley Cooper explained in a video interview with Yahoo Entertainment, “I went up to Seattle and spent four or five days with him and I asked him 9,000 questions. And he gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings. … He was wonderful.” Cooper also joked that Vedder initially warned against him making another A Star Is Born remake. “He thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie,” Cooper laughed. “He was like, ‘What? Bro, don’t do that.’”

Jason Isbell, who wrote the song for the film, voiced his excitement at Vedder’s performance via Twitter:
