Ever-rising jam quartet Eggy has developed a reputation for turning fans on to new music the band is listening to via covers of contemporary artists. During a recent tour stop at Chattanooga, TN’s Barrelhouse Ballroom, the Connecticut-native act added Mk.gee to that list with a cover of the buzzy alt-rocker’s 2024 track, “Candy”.
Eggy’s Jake Brownstein, Dani Battat, Mike Goodman, and Alex Bailey first signaled their Mk.gee fandom in early January with a That ’70s Show-style in-the-round snippet of them playing “Candy” at rehearsal. At the end of the clip, Brownstein even offered his best impression of Mk.gee’s unique look—jacket hood pulled over his head, face buried in his guitar—for a truncated guitar solo.

The band finally gave “Candy” a proper live performance four months later in Chattanooga, and the results were well worth the weight. Sung by Bailey from behind the drum kit, the cover maintained Mk.gee’s dreamy drone but allowed it to balloon beyond the muted, lo-fi boundaries that define the original version and into the expansive, enveloping, cathartic soundscapes for which Eggy is best known.

Following the end of the band’s recent Here and How Tour and a two-show appearance at Goose‘s Viva El Gonzo festival in Mexico, Eggy will continue its busy year on the road with a string of notable festival appearances in May and June. The band was also recently announced as a performer on the early-2026 editions of both Jam Cruise and Widespread Panic‘s Panic En La Playa. Find a full list of upcoming Eggy tour dates here.
