Ain’t no party like an Eggy Purim party. The Connecticut jam band continued its annual celebration of the spring Jewish holiday on Saturday with a show in Toronto dedicated to iconic women in music.

Just like the band’s Reelin’ In The Years inaugural Purim show last year at Brooklyn Bowl, Eggy came dressed for the occasion. Each member dressed as a radically different female musician, some of whom the band covered on Saturday, with keyboardist Dani Battat as Britney Spears, guitarist Jake Brownstein as Joni Mitchell, drummer Alex Bailey as Joan Jett, and bassist Mike Goodman as Janis Joplin.

Eggy started the show with a cover of R&B singer-songwriter Emily King‘s “Remind Me”. The 2019 single was already in the band’s repertoire and has appeared 19 times going back to its debut at 2023’s All IN Music & Arts Festival in Indianapolis, IN. The band also came equipped with a take on Kacey Musgraves‘ “Oh, What A World” which made its second appearance of 2025. Conversely, Eggy added a few new covers to its grab-bag, including Sheryl Crow‘s “Soak Up The Sun”, Heart‘s “Barracuda”, and Joni Mitchell‘s “Big Yellow Taxi”.

For many jam bands, attempting a tribute to a stable of female singers would turn out laughable-to-borderline-embarrassing, but not for Eggy. Next to textured songwriting and a tightly connected improvisational groupmind, Eggy’s greatest strength is its commitment to strong singing, a trait the band displayed throughout the performance.

The back half saw of the show some notable bust-outs between the debuts and some choice Eggy originals, with Stevie Nicks‘ “Edge of Seventeen” making its first appearance since December 2nd, 2015, a gap of 560 shows per The Carton. Later in the second set, during a jammed out run through fast-rising live favorite “Woah There”, the band began dropping teases of Rufus/Chaka Khan anthem “Tell Me Something Good”.  After ending the song at 12 minutes and ultimately finishing the set with “Golden Gate Dancer”, Eggy made good on its teases with a full-blown cover of “Tell Me Something Good”, the band’s first since September 29th, 2015, or 564 shows ago.
