Eggy started the new year with a tribute to those who came before, kicking off 2025 with the Grateful Dead‘s “Terrapin Station”. The title track to the Dead’s 1977 album was the first song the rising Connecticut jam quartet played at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club following the New Year’s ball drop.

With delicate vocals from keyboardist Dani Battat, “Terrapin Station” arrived amid an avalanche of balloons falling from the ceiling. Eggy last performed the classic on August 4th, 2018, per The Carton, but showed no rust as Battat, drummer Alex Bailey, guitarist Jake Brownstein, and bassist Mike Goodman deftly navigated the intricate composition. Brownstein’s clean tone and nimble runs up the pentatonic scale emphasized his fluency in Jerry Garcia‘s style, and the ensuing jam seamlessly transitioned from the vintage sound of the Dead into the contemporary groove of Eggy’s “Smile”.

The New Year’s Eve concert at the Paradise Rock Club closed yet another landmark year for Eggy. In 2024, the band made its Bonnaroo debut, co-headlined The Capitol Theatre with Dogs In A Pile, started its own holiday tradition with a sold-out Purim celebration at Brooklyn Bowl, and released its long-awaited sophomore studio album, Waiting Game. Jake Brownstein was also recruited into the extended Grateful Dead family by drummer Bill Kreutzmann, who brought the guitarist to Hawaii for three nights of Mahalo Dead alongside Daniel Donato, Adam MacDougall, Kanika Moore, Jason Hann, and Reed Mathis. Eggy already has plans for the new year, with a winter and spring tour set to run from February through April.
