Elevation Music Festival will host the first-ever performance by Snakes and Stars later this month on the weekend of August 12th and 13th. The new project from drummers Michael Travis (The String Cheese Incident) and Aaron Johnston (David Byrne, Brazilian Girls) will occur at the inaugural Eminence Ensemble festival in Alma, CO.
Located at Alma Town Park, Elevation will take home a record in its very first year as the highest music festival in the world at 10,500 feet. In addition to the debut of Snakes and Stars, the festival will feature four sets from hosts Eminence Ensemble as well as performances from locals Flash Mountain Flood, Dog City Disco, Jack Cloonan Band, Split Window, and more.
“This is a unique event in the highest incorporated city in the world. Eminence Ensemble has its roots in Summit County so Alma is the perfect location to bring our fans together for an intimate music weekend experience,” Elevation Music Festival founder and Eminence Ensemble drummer Tanner Bardin said. “The views within the town are breathtaking. We’re capping the event to only 500, so it will be a special immersive mountain music experience.”
Snakes and Stars is the brainchild of drummers Michael Travis and Aaron Johnston, a platform for them to explore various styles of electronic music in a live, improvisational format. They will utilize a variety of instruments including vocals, synthesizers, electronic pads and triggers, drum kits, guitar, bass, and samples to create unique, one-of-a-kind musical experiences on the fly. The pair take inspiration from roots in sub-genres such as minimal, trance, techno, and house alongside modern styles like trap and dubstep. The debut of Snakes And Stars comes a year after Travis and his SCI bandmate Jason Hann dissolved their live electronic duo EOTO due to “irreconcilable creative differences.”
