Eliot Lipp is the most recent artist coming out of the Pretty Lights Music label. His earlier works, Peace Love Weed and Tacoma Mockingbird, gave him an established fan base for his groovey electronic productions.

But this time, with the backing of big names such as Pretty Lights and SuperVision, Eliot Lipp has released Watch the Shadows – a funk-fueled electronic album that puts listeners to the test of time; the electrofunk album soon morphs into something far heavier.

The titular track has an eerie build featuring some middle-eastern sounding samples, and then drops in a heavy bass line to keep the flow going. This song prefaces the first half of the album – all following songs get funkier and more dancey.
Another highlight on the first half of the release, is “The Western” featuring Cherub – the electropop duo out of Nashville, Tennessee – Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber. This song has some classic disco-vibes, and some extremely catchy vocals. This one is sure to go on repeat for any lover of electro-disco. It is reminiscent of some releases of Breakbot.

After the majority of the album plays through, Eliot Lipp is greeted by SuperVision – the musical project of Richard Blake Hansen off the Pretty Lights Label. Needless to say, SuperVision, known for his trappy hard beats, turns up the energy level on “Fresh”, and sustains it as Lipp finishes up the album with original works.
The final tracks are laden with crisp percussion and deep explosive bass – a juxtaposition to the funky start of the album.

SuperVision

All in all, Eliot Lipp has proved himself to be talented at a wide range of sounds. Vibes from his earlier works, such as “Yeah” off of Peace Love Weed, resonate throughout the album, but has also learned to adapt some of the more intricate, energetic sounds of his new peers at Pretty Lights Music.
