Flavor Flav—one of the first, and definitely one of the greatest, hype men ever—put his pipes to the test at last night’s Milwaukee Bucks game, but rather than his usual “Yeah boys,” Flav pumped up the crowd by singing the national anthem.

You may be asking yourself, “Can Flavor Flav even sing?” and that is a great question. As a hype man for Public Enemy, Flavor Flav didn’t usually rap, much less sing. That’s why the internet was surprised by a recent viral clip of the famously boisterous Flav playing beautiful chords on an acoustic piano, with many wondering if he might be some kind of musical genius. With that context, the stage was set for Flav to blow everyone’s mind with his rendition of the national anthem.

While his singing skills may pale in comparison to his apparent competency on the piano, his spirited take on “The Star-Spangled Banner” was not as bizarre as a notorious performance by Fergie, who is actually a professional singer.
