Today, thousands of Deadheads will flock to the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater at San Francisco’s McLaren Park for the 16th-annual “Jerry Day.” Falling a few days after the late Grateful Dead guitarist’s birthday on August 1st, the annual event started in 2002 seeks to celebrate Garcia’s legacy and honor his roots in San Francisco and, more specifically, the Excelsior District.

This year, Jerry Day 2018 will feature performances from Melvin Seals and JGB, the Gary Gates Band, and Stu Allen & Mars Hotel in addition to unannounced special guests. Melvin Seals was a longtime member of Jerry Garcia Band, with his tenure spanning from 1980 up to Jerry’s death in 1995—Seals continues to keep the spirit of the Jerry Garcia Band alive and well by leading JGB into the future. The Jerry Day 2018 lineup also features two fan-favorite regional acts, Gary Gates Band and Stu Allen & Mars Hotel—both of which continue to honor the Grateful Dead and feature performers who have previously played with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, among other collaborators.

On Jerry Garcia’s birthday, the streaming service Nugs.net surprised fans by offering them a free 90-day subscription. However, the streaming service has announced another fun surprise for Deadheads in honor of the iconic guitarist, with the entirety of Jerry Day being streamed for free on Nugs.tv. The Gary Gates Band will take the stage at 11:45 a.m. (PT), with Melvin Seals and JGB performing at 12:45 p.m. (PT). The day will wrap up with Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, with the band’s set beginning at 3 p.m. (PT).
